Tibia Fractures
The tibia is the primary bone in the lower leg. When one or both of these bones are broken in an accident, a cast will be necessary to reset the broken bone. In severe situations, surgical intervention may be required.
Proximal Femur Fractures
While these are often referred to as hip fractures, they are actually broken legs. The damage is caused to the top portion of the thigh bone, which is adjacent to the hip bone. This can be a serious injury that requires surgery.
Femoral Shaft Fractures
These leg fractures are severe. In many situations, they are accompanied by other injuries caused in the same accident, frequently motor vehicle accidents.
Supracondylar Femur Fractures
This type of break occurs on the femur just above the knee. Often, the knee joint is damaged as well. When treating the injury, cartilage damage is a distinct possibility. Victims of this type of injury are susceptible to developing knee arthritis later in life.
